Welcome to Peel Hall Primary School Website - Ashurst Road, Wythenshawe. Manchester, M22 5AU - Tel: (0161)437 2494 Headteacher Mr M Hallam

Welcome to Peel Hall Community Primary School. All the staff at our school work towards creating a safe, positive, caring environment, where children will be happy to learn together. We aim for each and every child to be successful and achieve their full potential. Our school motto is 'Working together for success'

The school curriculum is broad and balanced covering all the statutory requirements and includes the teaching of the Manchester Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. The curriculum is also enriched by a range of differentiated activities so that learning is very much personilised to the individual child. We work in partnership with parents and all stakeholders of the school for the benefit of each individual child.

Within the curriculum parents have the right to withdraw their children from sex education, Religious Education and the collective Acts of Worship. The school respects parental rights, but discussions must be had with the headteacher before children can be removed from any of these teachings.

Peel Hall is a one form entry school for children from three to eleven years of age. The Nursery and Reception children are taught in the foundation stage unit which has recently been refurbished and they follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum.

The school makes effective use of two well sized halls so that the school can deliver whole school and key stage assemblies. These halls are also used to accommodate a toddler group twice a week on a Wednesday and a Friday afternoon. The halls are also used by sports coaches who deliver the teachers PPA time, this was at the request of children and this takes us above the national minimum requirements for physical education.

Key stage one classes are situated on one side of the school and foundation stage principles for teaching are implemented in both year 1 and year 2 classes. Both classrooms are of a large size so that the areas children are familiar with in the foundation stage setting are reflected in these rooms.

Key stage two classes are situated on the other side of the building in refurbished classrooms. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and children have access to a range of ICT equipment. Although learning becomes more formal the emphasis is still very much on a personalised learning approach, where children are set targets, monitor their own progress with the teachers and their parents and review them half termly.

On the second floor we have a learning support area, where children are withdrawn for a range of reasons, ranging from children with academic learning difficulties to those children that are identified as gifted and talented. These rooms also offer quiet working areas for children who prefer at times to have a more solitary approach to learning. We also have a computer suite which is used for discrete ICT teaching and for cross curricular research. Another room is our music and drama room. In September 2009, the school introduced a Thinc room facility. Children are withdrawn to work with a trained play therapist to develop their self confidence and esteem.

Outside we have three large playgrounds, one which has been developed fully so that there are ample opportunites to remain active during breaktimes. The foundation stage play area is an ongoing project, but this has numerous areas with an outdoor canopy so that continuous provision can be made. The year 1 and 2 playground is about to under go renovation following the successful ideas presented to the senior ledership team by the school council. We are also fortunate enough to have large playing fields, some of which has been landscaped.
